Gannon's Again

Today after church, we went with three other volunteer couples to Gannon's for brunch. Our volunteer friends are from Oliver, BC; Winnipeg, MB; and Morden, MB. The food and company were good, and the views from this property are breathtaking. People who claim that Maui is overrated haven't been to Gannon's! The restaurant is part of the Wailea Golf & Country Club where green fees are $200, so it is upscale to say the least, but breakfast/brunch prices are very reasonable.

Yesterday Marlene and I were on call and on one of my tours around the building, I met Dion, our caterer, unloading supplies from his vehicle to reopen the dining room. He told me our first meal would probably be next Saturday evening, so that is very good news. The dining room, which has been closed since last Nov 1st, should be open for the remainder of our stay until we leave on April 30th.

Gasoline prices are increasing everywhere I understand, but I walked by a gas station today that was selling regular at $4.56, high enough no doubt, but premium was $4.64, only $0.08 more. That is appximately $0.02 per litre whereas I pay $0.12 more in Stratford (Tony, are you listening)?

We start receiving participants and faculty this coming weekend, which is always exciting. We expect 56 participants which is a very good sized group.

Family Dinners

During our first four weeks, we are out of session, so we are on our own for all meals. Tuesdays we have a scheduled family dinner and last week we had a "Mennonite Dinner". These two ladies (Anna & Marti) greeted us for the dinner. The menu was traditional mennonite fare.

Then on Thursday, we were treated to a Valentines dinner (Marti was our hostess) - spagetti and cesar salad, one of my favourites. We even had a harpist (one of our volunteers from Manitoba), which the ladies thought was pretty romantic.

This morning we were out for breakfast to the Five Palms restaurant. There is usually a good whale show at this time of year, but no sightings today. The couple we are with are from Belleville, and they leave on the 26th.

Back Again

We arrived here on Tuesday evening at 9:30 pm, on time, but it was a very loooong day. Flights were smooth and timely. A smiling face was waiting at the airport, which is always nice, and we have a very nice room. Morale at Haggai is much better than we expected and of course there are some familiar faces from previous terms, 15 volunteers in total. We are out of session until month end, so no participants or faculty. We will get to enjoy two sessions, the first a double women's group and then a double men's group.
There have been problems with internet connections and because we become so dependent, that can be frustrating. We were to church this morning and out for lunch afterwards. I was also out to Rotary last Wednesday and it was nice to see familiar faces there as well.
